Taking proper care of your new tattoo is essential to ensure it heals well and keeps looking its best.

Below are 5 simple steps to help guide you through the healing process:

Step 1: Remove the Wrap

After your tattoo session, your artist will cover the area with a protective wrap.

You can remove this wrap after about 2 hours.

The best way to do this is while showering, as the warm water helps loosen the wrap gently.

Step 2: Clean the Tattoo

While showering, gently clean the tattoo using warm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap.

Avoid scrubbing the area — use your hand to lightly wash off any residue.

The warm water may feel a bit uncomfortable at first, but it helps open your pores so the skin can be properly cleaned.

Step 3: Dry Gently

After your shower, pat the tattoo dry using clean kitchen paper or a soft, clean towel.

At this point, do not apply any ointment yet — let your skin breathe for now.

Step 4: Wrap Before Bed

Before going to bed on the first night, wrap your tattoo in fresh plastic wrap.

This helps keep natural healing fluids on the skin and protects it from bacteria in your bedding.

Step 5: Start Moisturizing

In the morning, repeat Step 2 to gently clean your tattoo.

After drying, you can begin applying the tattoo ointment recommended by your artist.

Apply a thin layer, only when needed — usually 1 to 3 times a day depending on your skin.

Continue this for about 7–10 days, or until your tattoo has healed enough for a possible touch-up or second session.

Note that full healing under the skin takes several months.
